Awhile back, I wrote a letter to Radagast Petfood Inc. inquiring as to what info they might have about the feed used by their protein source farms. The co.'s V.P., Tracy Hatch, sent me a really informative email back, and although it contains no disclaimers or other legalese whatsoever, I'll summarize just to be on the safe side:
The chicken and turkey farmers grow their own feed and use no pesticides.
If the meat is not certified organic, the feed could technically contain GMO's. However, those suppliers who also produce certified organic poultry would probably not take the risk of using GMO feeds for their non-certified birds, as the chances of contaminating the certified birds' feed is too great. Due to the great expense and rigorous guidelines for getting certified, and the certainty of cross-pollination from growing GMO crops, IMO it would be highly unlikely for a company to make such a bad bet.
The lamb they use is 100% pasture-fed, no pesticides.
The company supports "absolutely" no industries using GMO's and uses as much organic as possible. Unfortunately all-organic would take the cost/price of the product out of range, so the balance of it is from pasture-fed animals.
Bonus: They don't use any of the foil-lined or bio-plastic containers that I personally am very wary of. It's just this hangup I have.
http://www.radfood.com/ Provides the names of the farms from which they purchase their source animals. If anyone is interested in reading the email I was sent, lemme know and I'll PM you.
