PetGuard Turkey & Rice

This is Wilson's new "snack" food, replacing his old Ziwipeak Lamb (last batch which was expired when I received it, and have yet to get a replacement...so moving on since it wasn't his favorite). He's only been eating it for a short while now, but Wilson seems to really like it. Just ordered more!

Does anyone know where I can order this wet food on-line? Waggintails has some but not all the flavors, Only Natural Pet doesnt seem to carry it. Im wanting to try this for Sophers but am having a hard time finding it on-line by the can in all the flavors and not by the case. I have contacted the company and they said they are sending a sample of their dry food.

Sandi, I haven't ordered it online, but try a google search on it. Pet Food Direct and some other sites, more like natural health food sites, are showing in my search. I didn't look at each of them since I'm sure you'll have some cost and shipping considerations where you are. Looking forward to your review of it (or I should say, Sopher's review!)
My cats love the beef flavor. And I think one of the turkey flavors is the only canned cat food that has no carrageenan or guar gum, which can be allergy triggers for sensitive cats. (oops, someone else already posted that!)

Does anyone have any kind of a clue at all about who manufactures their canned food? I just called the other day, and they still refuse to say, its proprietary info. And they still won't say yes or no to Menu.
Somehow, some of you seem able to find out things, so I was wondering if anyone might know this secret manufacturer.
If is isn't Menu, I would try it, at least the beef and turkey etc., non fishy foods. I have enough fishy foods at the moment with the Tiki food.

Oh, update to the above for Wilson. He developed diarrhea on the Turkey & Rice. It could also have been related to the Animax ointment we were putting on his ear at the time. But we stopped it either way. Wilson does have some suspected food allergies, we just aren't 100% sure to what.

We had a local store here that sold PetGuard food prior to the recalls. When the recalls started they dropped all the "generic" type foods like Hills & Royal Canin, and also any other companies that would not state who their manufacturer was. PetGuard wouldn't tell them, so they no longer sell the product. Since I was just sampling a few cans and didn't want a whole case, I ordered directly from PetGuard.

Jenny, that is why I have never bought Petguard, because they wouldn't tell me who manufactured their food. I just called the other day, and they still won't, so I won't buy it.
I think you store is smart.

I purchased a case of this 2 weeks ago when I had a bad sinus infection.
Couldn't smell a blessed thing.
I opened 3 cans to divide among 6 cats for a midnight snack.
No one would touch the food.
I scooped up the food and took it down to the basement kitties.
Completely refused by all but one who ate a little bit and then had diarrhea for 2 days. I am such a fool.
Last night, I tried again and almost threw up from the stench of the food when I opened the cans. The cats actually ran away from me. As I was bringing the remaining 18 cans out to the trash, I heard and saw the lids moving up and down, making almost a popping sound.
I have sent an email to the company.

Was the food moldy smelling or had a rotted smell? Years back bought a can of their dog food and just looking at it - donated it to my garbage can, did not even look like food to me IMO.

I am not surprised at your experience. And I believe it is a bit pricey, isn't it? Shame you didn't get your money back. Thank goodness no other cats ate it. Bet it is Menu.

This is a total disappointment to me as I have had success with 2 PetGuard flavors and have them in my food rotation.
JJ, I can only describe the smell as putrid.
Turkey and Rice should have a turkey and rice small.......this actually made me sick.
BW, I am very limited to what I can keep at home when I can not cook for my cats.
I have many with confirmed fish allergies and commercial food choices are even less for me when I need them.

Putrid as in decayed and dying, dead, ewwwwwwwww. Sorry you got sick from the smell. I'm sure you are disappointed as well. Seems things are made more difficult for us pet lovers, not easier with those pets on restricted diets.

Where in the world did you buy this batch of food? You say you threw 18 cans in the trash?! Why didn't you get your money back? With all of those cats to feed, I would think you would need to be careful with your pet food spending. I would have exchanged it, at the very least. The can lids were actually moving up and down? That's frightening. I can't imagine how that could be possible. I find your story extremely puzzling and distressing. Turkey and Rice 5.5 oz. cans for cats

Violet, this was my experience with these cases of food. Can lids moving up and down ccould be an indicator of botulism. I made numerous attempts to contact the company. 6 emails and 1 message given to a live person who said someone from QC would call me back.......no one called me back and 5 additional phone messages were left. To this day I have heard nothing.  The place where I bought the food would not refund my money. They told me it was a QC issue and the company should provide the refund and I still agree. In my opinion this food was not safe to keep in my home. I kept 4 cans and threw the rest away. $39.99 per case......I just love throwing away money |

I am getting tired of the non existant QA & QC not to mention lack of CS with pfc's. They take our money with no problem , but have an issue with the food & its a different story !

I thought someone mentioned this company was out of business as of January 2010, that Purina stopped
making it. But if you're still buying, obviously not so. What do I have it mixed up with?
