PetGuard Fish, Chicken & Liver Dinner
Best by 11/26/09
Now, I'm fairly tolerant to canned cat food smells, but this very soft pate was really stinkeroo! 3 cats of 4 ate it pretty happily (Chami didn't eat it - she's fairly fussy).
I'm just a bit afraid of how this is going to smell on its way out.

Chicken & Wheat Germ 5.5oz Best by 10/08/09 Just served this up to 4 and without hesitation, they all happily ate it for their snack! It's a very soft pate and a consistency they like. (Each ate about .5oz) By the way, the stinky Fish, Chicken & Liver Dinner comes out less stinky than going in.

I've tried many of the Pet Guard flavors. Squeaky only likes the stinky liver, fish & chicken. I was hesitant to give him "wheat germ." Is wheat germ basically wheat? I avoid all products with wheat gluten.

PetGuard Savory Seafood Dinner Best by 02/11/10 I served this to Mooch and Chami tonight and got big huge paws UP. It's a nice soft pate and they really went to town with it.

August, thank you for letting us know the results of these foods with your kitties, it does help. Right now we are having problems with Sophers eating or should I say not eating again, its hard to know if its the food or perhaps her prior issues showing up again. So in trying to search for foods to get her going again, these types of reviews are helpful!

August do the flavors you are serving now have a different label? I noticed the Turkey with Barley Lite which Socks used to eat without fail has a different label and she is not eating much of it. I couldn't find the ingredient difference but the look of the food is different, now it's dryer with brown glunk on the bottom of the can.

Sandi K, I'm sorry to hear that your Sophers is having issues again. I hope you'll be able to find the problem soon. That must be so frustrating to deal with. I'm sending good vibes!
Ranger, I'm afraid I'm using this brand for the first time, so I'm not aware of a difference in label. Maybe it's the particular batch that Socks doesn't like? We often eat the big cans of a particular pate wet and the consistency of it changes quite a lot with the batch. It's truly irritating, since The Royalty are so in tune with that kind of thing.

No problems to report other than a couple cats with one episode of pudding-like, light tan stools. They also had Petguard organic the same day, so maybe too much grains in one day for them. They really liked both flavors.

Tried a 3 oz can of Premium Feast today. 3 cats almost fought for it, including one extremely picky one who will eat very few wet foods. I haven't seen this much enthusiasm for a wet food in a long time. Had tried this brand back a couple of years ago (don't remember which flavor) in 5.5 oz can and it was snubbed by all. Gave small portions since it was a new food. (Unfortunately DH dumped recycling into bin before I was able to record lot number.) 3 oz can cost $1.05 at my local natural/organic foods co-op. They only sell 2 flavors, the Premium Feast and a fishy one.

I don't use this food, but it has been pointed out on the yahoo IBD list that the Turkey & Rice dinner is guar gum and carrageenan free. Some believe the veggie based thickeners can be a problem for some cats with IBD.

Thanks Jenny. May try the Turkey & Rice next for my younger ones with stool problems. They all like the Organic and Premium Feast so far.

Only Jess would eat the Premium Feast last night - ate with gusto, but wouldn't get near the "left overs" this morning. I don't think it was the food, though, just my fussy eaters.
