I continue to serve Orijen every other day for the 4 here and they are all eating it well with no problems.

It's a shame to somehow feel badly about still using Orijen.  But I am, and report no troubles.

This morning we broke open our first sample bag of Orijen 6 Fresh Fish, and according to house Rule #6 Anything New Is Best, it was munched down enthusiastically by 3 out of 4.

I've been feeding the regular kibble (not the fish) to my cats for two months.

I had heard about Orijen, and assumed that it would either be unavailable or expensive in my area. To my surprise, I found out Orijen is actually made right in the province I live in and available pretty much everywhere except for big chain stores. I like the ingredient list, I like the high meat content, and I feel happy supporting a local company that seems to have a really respectable mandate.

I was sad and concerned to hear about the recalls, and it did make me pretty conflicted. In the end I decided that I still trust and support the company. I know that not everyone would agree with me, but that is my position.

My Larges won't eat Orijen without freeze-dried chicken on it, and because my IBD Large Mooch can't eat that anymore, I've not been feeding my Larges this.  I have been, however, feeding the Larges the Orijen 6-fish and it is very well-liked.

This morning I took my leftover bag of Orijen to see if the Tinies would eat it (without freeze-dried chicken), and they absolutely loved it.

My cats like it a whole lot better now that they've removed the juniper berry. August, maybe you have an old batch. Try the new one without juniper.

Is there any way to know the new bags without reading the ingredient list?

No, they're using the same bags. I know the ingredient list is long and tiny but it's something I noticed because I never liked that ingredient.

I see.  I buy off the internet and often the ingredient list isn't posted.  What's more, my Orijen bags all say "Prepared for Japan" -- I have no clue as to what exactly that's supposed to mean, and it's right on top of the (English) ingredients list.  Down below there is a big sticker with the ingredients in Japanese, and once the sticker was for Canine (the front of the bag, however, was for Feline).   Angry

If you have a best before date, I could tell you if you have the old or new.

Oh, thanks!  Wouldn't you know I just took the bag down to Mom's.  I'll check next time I'm down there!

I finally remembered to get the numbers, but Bug, I know you've got your hands full so please don't feel you need to reply to this.

The bag I have is best by 06 April 11  Lot 1000530

The Tinies love it.  The Larges don't (though the Larges have never really liked Orijen unless there's freeze-dried chicken on it, and nowadays I only serve it as is).

August, that's the new formulation without juniper. I guess it's something else they smell that they're not crazy about. Pip would always do scratchy-scratchy, pretending to cover it up with the old formula, but now she loves it and chooses it over others. At least the babies like it.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear it's the new formula.  Maybe I'll try keeping on seeing if the Larges will eat it or not.  Thank you!
