I first got a sample bag of Orijen dry cat food in early December when it became available in my area.
Since then I have used this as one of the rotation foods for those cats who still prefer mostly dry. My cats love it! The kibble eaters prefer this over all other dry food. When I mix this with other dry food that they formerly loved, they pick through to get the Orijen. Recently one of my cats has started to meow for Orijen if there is none in the bowl, even with her other formerly favorite food right there. The cats who usually eat wet food think that this is cat treats.
I have noticed that the cats drink a little more water after eating this, but I read that this is to be expected since it is so high in protein. I hope that's true. I stopped feeding it for a week and water consumption went back to former levels, so I don't think they have anything else going on. I have not noticed any ill effects, changes in stool, etc.

Mine drink a lot of water too, and I guess I am glad to see that, since they both have CRF.

I have been feeding Orijen cat food for at least a year and my cats are doing great on it. They eat it enthusiastically and haven't gotten tired of it. At this time I am concerned but will continue to feed it since I am in the US.

Both of my cats have been on Orijen Cat since it came out in Canada. They are 18 and 12. They've just had their annual wellness exams and, although they have had CRF (the 18 year old was diagnosed 5 years ago), they passed with flying colours and CRF is stable.
I gave them some Wellness CORE this past week, mixed with their Orijen kibble, and they picked out the Orijen and left the Wellness.
They have also been spotted stealing the occasional Orijen kibble from the dog's dish.

I've been using Orijen cat food for 1.5 years. My cat loves it and his stinky, soft stools are a thing of the past.

We tried this for Sophers awhile ago, put some out in a bowl and she literally ran away from it. What can I say 'cept this is Sophers, she has caught PITA syndrome from Offy's cats....

Wanting to go grain-free, Orijen has been our exclusive kibble for the past several months (we're all about 1.5 yrs old). They love it, but they won't touch it unless there is freeze-dried chicken crumbled over it. (So you're thinking that it's the freeze-dried chicken, right? Actually, I've tried this trick with another grain-free kibble and it was a total no-go.)

He he, August, freeze-dried chicken only helps when the food itself is borderline acceptable. Mine for example wouldn;t touch Aixia tuna and salmon can no matter how much freeze dried chicken I crumble on it. Same for Ciao Inaba chicken and salmon flavor, or whatever canned food with salmon.
Back on topic, I've been feeding Orijen (mixed with Ziwipeak) for over a year and have been quite happy with it. I have temporarily suspended feeding it until it is fully clear what happened in Australia and in the meantime I've noticed a small improvement in Sophie's #2, but need to see whether this will persist, so I am currently feeding Ziwipeak as only dry. Or rather Ziwipeak+freeze-dried chicken (FDC), otherwise it is eaten rather slowly while with FDC it is eaten most enthusiastically.
For mine, Orijen would be eaten without FDC and they really loved it, they would it Orijen first and then slowly finish off remaining Ziwipeak in the bowl.

Had to come back to laugh at myself for writing, "they love it, but they won't touch it" My guys each get 1/4 cup of Orijen a day (with other foods) and it takes them about 12 hours to finish it off (this is the case with any kibble/wet/raw), but it does get finished. Other grain-free I've tried so far do not. I do have to sometimes sift it around to get those FDC dusty crumbs back on the top though, or crush an extra one midday if Mooch has nosed his way through the bowl.

http://www.championpetfoods.com/Australia_Consumer_Release_Nov28.pdfHere is what Orijen has posted on their site regarding the problem in Australia. From reading this info I truly believe they stand behind their product and I am not concerned with the problem happening here or in the US. I have dealt with another company that lied right to my face....Champion Foods is not that company!!

Yeah, I actually think Orijen is a good food. I am just a little iffy after the whole australian recall. From reading that thread there seems to be a returned pallet of irradiated food that is unaccounted for. Also, the batches that had the unintended BHT? (don't remember exact letters, but was an unhealthy preservative), could still be in Switzerland (where I am). The online store that I get Orijen from does not have a high order rate for the food, so I would like to wait a while until sure that they have a fresh batch without the bad stuff in it. Unfortunately, my german skills are not sufficient to call and speak with the online store to ask. I did much reading today on european pet food standards and if the rules are actually enforced, I think Power of Nature would be a great food to get.

I live in Cananda where Orijen is made. I was concerned when I heard about the recall....but did some research and found out it only pertaind to one country. I actually switched to Origen when one of my Maine Coons had a reaction to another brand...Royal Canain. I am really glad I did...and so is he. Orijen along with the ZiwiPeak canned I feed had made some really noticible changes to the boys....their coats are awesome...and they are soooooooo happy!!
