I'm currently "exploring" Epigen http://www.wysongepigen.net/index.php - having been using Orijen for the past three years......

(There's already a short thread on here about it - perhaps I'll add to it later - in which the comments were almost all very negative.)

All six cats are enthusiastic about it...and, with zero carbs, so am I!

Another variety is expected in 2011 with 90% meat content...yummy! http://www.wysongepigen.net/epigen90.php

What I'm confused about is that they're saying they've taken the starch out. Starch breaks down into sugars. Apples, blueberries, tomato, beet pulp -- that's all starch in a different form (sugars). I'm not opposed to including these ingredients but you can't claim no starch if you're going to include sugars, don't ya think?

The venison one looks pretty good. Have you already fed this stuff to your cats?

You could certainly put your starch/sugar question to them directly......there are two technical info reps available, Jenni and Jeff at (989) 631-0009.

Only the chicken formula is available thus far...personally, I've steered clear of all Venison products to date (the CWD factor).

I'm using the samples I received from the Canadian distributor - everyone goes kwite kwazy for it.

I have a couple new bags of Archetype and am now giving it to my Zoo.

Is it a new formula?  I haven't used it in a while but it appears different.

Whatever the case, all 9 absolutely love it and eagerly lick their plates clean when I serve it as a night snack.

I was reading the ingredients and am wondering about the sage extract, rosemary extract and oregano extract...does anyone know anything about these things, whether they are OK for cats?  I was sort of thinking about ordering a bag of the Epigen 90 for Sophs to try but just arent sure...

I have known a lot of cat foods to contain rosemary extract as a natural preservative, and in the amounts in the food, I don't think it's harmful to cats.  The others, I don't know about.

A lot of Wysong foods are full of corn, even though this one does not appear to contain it, so you might want to check any others carefully.

Wysong has changed all their dry diets for dogs and cats.

For example:
