5.5 oz. cans Evo Cat and Kitten Food Turkey and Chicken Formula BB 11/11/10 15TCM308 1123

My three cats were wildly enthusiastic about the first can - I think they like novelty and gobble anything new. But with the second can, it was like "Ho hum, been there, ate that". They did eat most of it but left some on the plate.

No problems.

My guys had a similar reaction to the chicken&turkey and much preferred the duck, but to keep things varied, I kept throwing it into the rotation...and now they are going nuts over the chicken&turkey.

I'm feeding EVO dry.  I had a VERY finicky eater, and she ate this food the second I offered it to her like she'd been starving in the desert for decades (which - in a sense - I think she had!).

The one interesting thing I've noticed is that as I get towards the bottom of the bag, there are a lot of small particles and dusty residue (probably from the kibbles rubbing against one another and breaking off small pieces or whatever coats the kibble).  And she will be more likely to upchuck or have diarrhea when I'm down to this "dusty stuff) (which is what leads me to think there's a coating that's getting rubbed off and maybe then is more concentrated as I reach the bottom of the bag where it's collected).

Rather than throwing this out (because the food is expensive and there's still a good bit of it left), I have adopted the practice of opening a new bag when I get towards the bottom of the previous one, and then mixing in the "small pieces" (about one part "small pieces" to 4 parts "new food") with each feeding until the old bag is depleted.

This appears to have solved the problem.

Other pat, your theory of rubbing off a coating, might make sense.  I have heard that vitamins are sprayed onto human food as it passes down the conveyor belt, vitamins sprayed onto cereal for example.  After hearing that, I always felt silly buying the cereal that had 100% of all the vitamins you need a day, if it was just something they sprayed on at the end of the process and not actually IN the food.

That was years ago, and I have no idea whether or not it was true.  Not the foggiest.  I also use EVO kibble, and my cats like it a lot, been eating it since the pf crisis.  And yes, there is sometimes a lot of dust.   In the past I have taken really dusty bags back, but now the company will not accept them, so my store won't accept them either.  It doesn't seem to be as bad as it was at times in the past though.

We've only tried the EVO canned, Turkey & Chicken cat and kitten food, 95% Venison, 95% Duck, 95% Chicken and Turkey.

Mixed reactions from my cats, but I expect that since it is so different from other foods they eat.  It has a different texture.  Some of my cats really like it, some not so crazy about it, but all will eat some of it.

We're still loving our Evo 95% chicken&turkey and also 95% duck.  Both are a very soft pate and stay fairly unchanged after being left out.

We've also been having our regular canned Original Evo, but the consistency in the last many batches have been so hard, that's been a turn-off for everyone involved over here.  I even tried both the 12 oz and the 5.5 oz cans but both are so solid I have to put in a ton of water (which is fine, but they like it better when it's just the original goop).

We tried Evo grain-free dry about two years ago (the kitties are now 2.5 yrs old) and we got constipated so we nixed it.  I must say I'm a bit curious to know if, now that we have been grain-free nearly 2 years, if we'd be able to eat it and like it (well, they'd  Wink  ).  Hmm.

AKM,  well, I won't buy the Evo canned because last I heard it was made by Menu, and I simply won't buy anything made by them.  However, Menu doesn't make the dry EVO, and that is my cats main dry food.  Everybody likes it.
Of course, my little mother Sweetie Pie still  begs for some Purina Kitten chow in the yellow bag every day, and so I give her a little bit at the end of the day as a treat.  She got that outside when she was a kitten, and I think it has memories for her, it comforts her.  Now that she is enjoying the tiki cat canned, she doesn't seem to need as much.  I am trying to ween her off it totally.  She is starting to get "rounder." I have seen her eat some EVO dry occasionally too.

I have a couple pouches of the Turkey and Chicken and am waiting for a day where I can monitor my cats. They're not OK with fish in wet food and can deal with some of it in the dry. They were OK with the original formula (which included potatoes) other than very stinky poops. They loved the flavor. They are also fine with the Innova Cat/Kitten dry, but not with the EVO Cat/Kitten wet (specifically Pip -- allergies). I'll post back about the trial after the weekend.

I gave some of this food to Katey yesterday and she went nuts for it. The other two came running and were sniffing and sniffing like they really wanted some. I didn't give it to them yet because I had to go to work today and want to be able to monitor them for any reactions. They used to eat it a long time ago when there was potato in it, but not that much because of stinky poos. They already eat some Innova but this food has a lot more fish (herring meal) and we'll see how it goes tomorrow with Mia and Pip.
