Canada. We started feeding our cats the Fromm Duck a la Veg dry after the recall becasue we were trying to avoid anything made by Menu, Royal Canin or any other company on the recall list.  It was very hard to find anything and from the moment we tried this food, our cats both really loved it. We feed primarily wet food morning and night with a small amount of dry left out during the day. The Duck a la Veg has chicken fat and broth and though our allergy cat is allergic to chicken it doesn't seem to bother her too much, just a little minor itching. We leave it out for the smaller cat to munch on during the day - she doesn't always eat well and is slightly underweight. The kibble is very small and easy to swallow so none of the usual gobble and barf immediately we sometimes got with other dry food that had larger kibble. I'm not crazy about dry food anymore but it's useful to have if you have to go on vacation and have someone coming in to feed your cats. Our cats are shy and won't always come out of hiding to eat when my family takes care of them. I notice a lot of people at our pet shop are using this dry food and everyone I've chatted to just loves it. We also tried the Salmon version but our cats would not eat it, they prefer the duck.

I used to think that anyone doing anything weird was weird. I suddenly realized that anyone doing anything weird wasn't weird at all and it was the people saying they were weird that were weird.

So, I have been feeding Fromm's Salmon a La Veg for a few months now.  I also feed my cat wellness canned food (almost all kinds).  The cats love both.  With this combination (roughly half each), I was able to improve the kidney test result of my cat.  Back in March, I had blood and urine test on my cat (14 years old) and the vet said he has protein leaking through the kidney wall (sounded bad) and advised low protein diet.  I choose Fromm Dry and Wellness wet food and he was impressed that the the test result from last week looked real good.  There is no trace of protein leak.

I am grateful that I use Fromm and wellness.  I used Science Diet's Nature's Best Adult Cat Food with Real Chicken/ Science Diet's Feline Adult before the switch.  I would not go back to that again.

I am in Dallas, Texas.

4 cats; Wisconsin.  I tried the Fromm dry Duck a la Veg this week.  All 4 of my cats seemed to like it, but my cat who has chewing problems choked on it and barfed whole kibble back out.  (She has done this with several foods that have this small, hard kibble.)

Ditto, catbird! My cat also can't/won't handle the small, round pellet like kibble! He acts as if it gets caught between his teeth and gums and spits it back out.

Recently switched from another brand to the new Surf & Turf Grain free dry food. They get canned food in the morning and dry in the evening. They seem to love this food and their skin and coats have drastically improved since the switch. I also like the fact that it is actually made by Fromm at their own facility.

I have tried the Surf and Turf for 3 feedings now (rotating with other foods.)  The two cats who still eat dry really dug into it vigorously--like it tasted really good.  Since this also has that small hard kibble (seems even a little harder than the regular Fromm dry foods with grain), I have to be careful to keep it away from the one who chokes, however.

I know a friend who had good luck with the duck and allergic cat .... Smaller the kibble the tastier , I have to find out the reasoning but at least at my house it has proven true

Hi, as I posted in a differnt thread, Sophers has been getting some Fromms Grain-free Surf & Turf dry kitty food for treats after she gets her anti-biotics.  She LOVES this food.  I was wondering if anyone out there knows whether this food has too many carbs?  These are the ingredients:

Salmon, Duck Meal, Salmon Meal, Pea Protein, Chicken, Sweet Potato, Potato, Duck, Pea Flour, Dried Tomato Pomace, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Whole Dried Egg, Salmon Oil, (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Flaxseed, Cheese, Pea Fiber, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Apples, Green Beans, Lecithin, Chicken Cartilage, DL-Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Cranberries, Blueberries, Salt, Chicory Root Extract, Alfalfa Sprouts, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Folic Acid, Parsley, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Longum, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcous Faecium, Vitamin A, D3, E, B12 Supplements, Choline Bitartrate, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Cobalt Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Sorbic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite.

This is the "guaranteed" analysis:

Sandi, I believe the carb content of the Surf & Turf is around 26% which is about the average for many grain free dry cat foods. There are only a few dry foods that have a lower carb content. The brands that I am aware of are; Evo 7%, Wellness Core 11%, Natures Variety Instinct 7%, and Orijen at 15%.

Thanks for that info Laurie. I think Pinnacle has low carbs too, at least thats what they advertise it as....?

Pinnacle advertises it dry food as containing "45% less carbs than their original formula". Without knowing how high the carb content was in the old formula there is no way of telling how many are in the new one. I would guess that it is another dry food that is in the mid to upper 20% range. You would have to call the company to find out the exact number.

OK Laurie, I understand now, thank you!  All I can say is Sophers just love that food, she normally wont show her liking for much of anything.   Roll Eyes  Grin

I was wondering if anyone uses the Fromm salmon ala veg and if so what their experiences have been?  Btw, even though Sophers loved the Surf & Turf when we tried it last year it didnt agree with her and we think it was because of the cheese but she did love the taste of it...that says quite a bit for Sophers as she is the queen of food refusals.....Roll Eyes
