Please post your Fancy Feast experiences here.

This is a link to coding explanation obtained by member Mandycat.

http://itchmoforums.com/pet-food-questions-and-researching-foodsingredients/fancy-feast-coding-question-t6340.0.html;msg94499#msg94499

Here is the e-mail reply I received from Purina today regarding the coding on their cans.  Note that they have forwarded the * * question to someone else to answer, so I will post that reply when I receive it.  This will at least give those who use Fancy Feast a full explanation of what the numbers on their cans mean.

"Thank you for contacting Nestlé Purina PetCare Company.

We appreciate your interest in our products. There are manufacturer's dates on all of our products. They usually are located by the "best by" date, and are usually stamped in ink, or embossed on the package. This code is a series of numbers and letters, and may look something like this ex: 62351178L230187.

Here is how to read the code on your package. Ex: 62351178

The First number is the year it was manufactured (2006)
The next 3 numbers are the Julian date it was manufactured (235th day)
The next 4 numbers are the plant where it was manufactured.
The L2 is a line number at the plant
The last numbers indicate a time stamp when the food was manufactured.

We have forwarded your question about the two asterisks stamped on the cans to the appropriate department. We should have an answer shortly.

We hope this information is helpful for you and please let us know if you have additional questions.

Again, thank you for visiting our web site."

I fed my crew of 3 to 9 cats at any given time FF canned, all varieties and flavors, for over ten years.  They all suffered from dull coats, allergies, skin irritations, vomiting, watery eyes, soft stools and constipation all along.  Specific incidences of "bad food" but not recalled where lethargy, anorexia and diarrhea happened to each of them at least a couple of times a year. Since stopping all FF, all symptoms have cleared up.

Missing my cat brothers and sister killed by PF

« Reply #1 on: July 19, 2007, 08:33:18 PM »

Mine are addicted to the stuff moist and dry..They look fine but this is not the only food I will feed them. I set aside all the cans with corn...wheat...whatever ya know and I also set aside all the Meledy ones because EVERY TIME they ate that....and they LOVED it they puked

I wish someone would get that food checked out. I can't afford it

AR Wal-Mart

When?:
Fed for 18 years BEFORE RECALL

Good point:
Cat's favorite food-fed twice a day.
Didn't like the fishy ones.

Cat died of kidney falure before recall.

Have been feeding Fancy Feast for about 7 years.  Cat likes turkey, chicken, and salmon flavors best - non-gluten varieties. Her favorite is Chunky Turkey Feast which does have wheat gluten.  Stopped using it after recall, but recently been giving it once in a while because she likes it so much.  Never had any problems with vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, kidney or urinary problems at all.

We live in Maryland.

This is all that my two cats (17 and 11) will eat as a wet food. I have tried them on a number of other brands, as well as cooked and raw meat since the recall and they will not touch anything other than FF. If I even mix in a spoonful of anything else, they will not eat.

They eat the pate, and nothing with chunks or gluten or Medleys.

Fortunately, they also eat a high quality kibble for about 50% of their daily intake.

I wish there was a published analysis of FF.

Both cats are CRF, but only the older one got FF, and I can't attribute CRF just to that because he was eating other grocery store brands. The younger cat was a rescue and got her CRF, no doubt, elsewhere.

For most of my 2 cats lives until November 06 I fed them Fancy Feast Salmon, Fancy Feast Ocean Fish and other various cans that I can't recall.
My cat Gracie seemed to love the wet food more so ate more of it. In November she was diagnosed with CRF so I did what the VET suggested and put her on R/X foods (See Hills Prescription foods).
My other cat, Ruby was more of a dry food eater but nibbled on the FF until Gracie bumped her out of the way.

I don't recommend Fancy Feast because of my cat getting CRF after eating it for years.
(no proof that it was what caused it but just in case....)

I have had 8 cats on Fancy Feast for more than 10 years. I have tried to use other, more natural, brands of wet food (Newman's, Pet Promise), but the cats much prefer Fancy Feast.

One of those cats has gone to live with a neighbor, and the neighbor reports that the cat turns up its nose at any wet food except Fancy Feast.

One of the 8 cats (who is 17) has chronic renal disease, but the rest (various ages) are very healthy. They are all monitored annual with blood tests.

Ys, I know it is has by-products and guar gum. I do not feed any varieties with wheat gluten. After abandoning Nutro and Max cat, my cats refused Innova, Cal Natural, Merrick and Felidae. They  will eat the Facy Feast with guar gum.
Any one have problems with guar gum Fancy Feast?

One of my cats will only eat Fancy Feast.  He refuses all other canned.  I avoid the flavors with wheat gluten and supplement the canned with Wellness Complete dry kibble.  He's a little on the skinny side, but he's always been that way.  Seems to be doing just fine.

Using various non-gravy types with my 2 recovering ARF cats -- they are fragile and have had no setbacks--they do like variety so also using wellness grain-free and occasional friskies canned (no gravy styles)--they are very finicky so hard to find something they will eat. (they were eating Special Kitty for about 10 yrs without incident until February of this year)

forgot to say I'm in Rhode Island

4 cats; WI.  Used as an occasional treat, not a regular food, up until a few months ago when I began to read the labels more closely.  Now I refuse to use it at all.  Nutritional value questionable; addictive.  New stuff in the blue-green cans made them puke.

Chantilly VA.

Both cats ate Fancy Feast for about 7 years.

2 cans into a new case of Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Chicken Florentine, I had to sick cats in less than 24 hours and at the end of 3 mos of testing 2k in vet bills.  My cats are only 7 and 9 years old.

In Alexandria, VA.

Fed our cat Fancy Feast from the time she was 3 months old till about 1 year old, she loved it but would also have fairly constant excessive "sleep" coming out the bottom of her eyes. She also would eat 2 cans per day to be satisfied, and was gaining more weight than she should have been - this stopped, her eyes cleared up, and she is happy with half the amount of food after changing to BRAND X

Would not recommend it myself at this point, it seems like the equivalent of kitty junk food.

NY
My daughter fed her cat, Morgan, FF seafood flavors.  The cat had vomiting regularly and skin issues.  Did much better on Wellness Chicken.
Morgan has since passed away (last month) of cancer in the roof of her mouth.  Vet said he didn't know if the cancer was food related.  She was 7 years old.
