Recently bought a 16.5 lb bag of this which is giving Rufus and the ferals diarrhrea.  Within 1 day after feeding it, they were all affected. Stopped feeding for several days and everything was back to normal. Tried feeding it again and everyone had diarhhea again.  Pet store won't take it back (bummer).  Too bad as I had previously had good luck with Eagle Pack. Won't be feeding it again and 32 bucks now down the drain.  Lot number is SE1893 / 61512-01.  I live in Southern California.

You could call the manufacturer's toll free number or email them about your cats' problem with the food.

I got 2 sample packages of Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck & Oatmeal. The website states that it is formulated for indoor cats. The kitties just
finished one packet and are starting on the second. They seem to like it and they have no digestive problems with it. I like it because it has none
of the ingredients that I would avoid. I was going to buy a 3 pound bag, but now I think I'll wait a while. I'm also in So. Calif.

Yeah I bought the big bag because the previous five small bags had worked out well  Tongue   I have also used the Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy & Sardine with good results.  I like that they make it themselves and no by-products.  I will call Eagle Pack just to let them know about the problem - it's strange that it gave Rufus the runs because I was only giving him a tiny bit as a snack (his main food is a raw diet).  But I was feeding it to the ferals as their main food and everyone had the same problem at the same time with the new bag, so I can't imagine what else could have caused the diahhrea for everyone.  Boo.

I also seem to be having trouble with our new 16.6 lb. bag of Eagle Pack Holistic Select, but we use the Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon Meal Formula with Oatmeal for Adult Cats variety. During the recall we switched to Eagle Pack Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon Meal Formula with Oatmeal for Adult Cats. All our cats loved the sample packs (even our Special Kitty freak, outside cat we took in, was just hooked on that junk). So we stared buying the 6.6lb bags of Eagle Pack Anchovy, and it went over really well. Cats coats looked much better, nice and shiny. I even thought our older cat was being able to jump up on tables more easily. We recently decided to order a larger bag, because we went throught the smaller ones so fast. While we were waiting on it to arrive at our smaller local pet food store (super sweet people), we survived off of sample packs of the Anchovy. None of the cats had any problems on the Anchovy sample packs dated May 30, 2008. We were also given samples of the Duck and Oatmeal and Chicken Meal and Rice. My cats didn't like or had mild diarhhea on the Duck and Chicken samples. So we got our 16.5 lb of the Anchovy in finally. But then when we tries to feed it our younger female cat, she wouldn't touch it. Our older female ate a little of it and then threw it up, and our newest member a 8 month boykitty ate it, he's always hungry, but now has had really bad diarhhea for four days. We went back to our local pet food store and got a few more sample packs to try, just to see if it was just a problem with the new 16.5 bag. But same thing, not eating and diarhhea with the newer Anchovy sample dated July 20,2008 and Chicken dated July 02, 2008. Luckily our smaller local pet food store will take the 16.5lb bag of Anchoy back. They suspect that our larger bag just sat on the shelf in the warehouse for too long. The 16.5lb bags come in a thicker paper bag as opposed to the 6.6 lb bag which comes in a zippered plastic bag. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. None of that accounts for the newer sample pack refusals. I'm just frustrated because the 6.6lb of the Anchovy had been such a good food for our cats. Our 16.5lb. bag of  Eagle Pack Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon Meal Formula with Oatmeal for Adult Cats lot number is SE1891   61511-01  PD. The expiration date is 22 Jun 08, it also had this next to the expiration date  0822 P2.

Maybe this topic should be moved to the "problems" section, but I am going to respond to Dianne here anyway:  Dianne, thanks for posting your problems with the later dated Eagle Pack anchovy.  I currently have two 3.5 lb bags of the anchovy - one is dated May 30 08, like yours, and the other has a date earlier in May 08 (May 7 08 I think, I will update if necessary when I get home and can look at the bag) and the cats have all been fine so far (both bags about half eaten).

By the way, I talked to the owner at the pet store again and she ended up taking back my 16.5 bag of duck that was causing all the problems (I switched it for the two smaller bags of anchovy I have now).  Dianne, we should both call the company about these problems. Something is definitely going on here.

I too had trouble with both the Duck & Oatmeal and the Sardine, Anchovies, Salmon formulas. I was originally feeding both my cats the Sardine, Anchovies, Salmon formula (16.5 lb. bag) and about 1.5 weeks later they both were vomiting and had severe diarrhea. I had to take to take them both to the vet for blood tests, exams, x-rays, etc.. The vet believed that both my cats caught some kind of bacterial or viral infection. I called Eagle Pack and asked it there was any recalls on the dry food and they said no. They sent me another 16.5 bag but in the Duck and Oatmeal dry formula. I fed that to my cat for 3 days but I had to stop because they had no energy. They were not lethargic but they were definitely acting strangely. Since I stopped feeding them any Eagle pack they are much better. All this happened this month too. It's ashame because in the past I have had very good luck with Eagle Pack but since all this started I will not longer feed them this brand.

I started Mine on the Eagle Pack Holistic, but have now started on the Eagle Pack Plain Adult Cat Formula and they all seem to be doing great.
