Buy local. Buy organic. If you ate today, thank a farmer, hopefully a small, local farmer.
Remember the thousands & thousands of pets that died to give US a wake-up call about the safety of ALL food.

i Just picked up 5 chicken and 5 salmon. Those are the 2 flavors that the pet store had. Right now i have one cat that loves merrick ocean breeze and 2 who like it so so. They will eat the thanksgiving dinner, surf and turf and new england boil but i have to rotate them or they tire of it quickly. Im new to here i dont mean to hijack the thread but can anyone give some info as to why some of you dont like merrick??
I will report on how they liked the salmon tonight when i feed them.

well i just tried the salmon. It didnt really go well with my 3 cats. 2 ignore it and one picks at it with his paw. ( he does that with evo canned food too) earlier i fed them ocean breeze and they ate the bowls clean. i usually try to seperate their meals into 3 meals a day so they go thirds on one can three times a day. most of the time they eat at the third meal and this is the third meal. i dont think they are "full" they just did not find the salmon before grain too interesting.

The canned food is not a complete and balanced food. It is for supplemental feeding only.

I got the really small bag of the kibble for treats for MK & Ling. I also got a variety pack to see if it would help with the transition from wet to homecooking (a step up IMO from yukky commercial ingredients in the wet they're eating) Kibble withdrawal/addiction was obvious as they both RAN to the dish when they heard the clatter of kibble being poured. I thought they were going to fight over the dish. I had to get another dish so that they could gobble To my amazement, Scooter ate some kibble with enthusiasm. Sadly, the canned chicken was left uneaten. (Well, at least I don't feel so bad about my cooking now so, there, Merrick LOL) (And, they wouldn't eat it for breakfast either after a night with no food down.. not even hungry..and that's what they do to the "good stuff" homecooked and to brands better than their current ones.) Ling, however, merrily slurped the liquid. Sigh, ain't that how it supposed to be with PITAs? ScoreCard: Kibble - 3 of 3 paws upChicken - 3 of 3 paws down (Ling liked the juice) Quail - 2 of 3 paws up (Ling & MK like it)

Well after last night when i fed them the salmon bg they didnt want to eat the wellness i also put out for them instead. after that i tried a can of ocean breeze and they didnt eat that so i guess they maybe just werent hungry. I just right now tried the chicken bg and they ate it with no complaints. it smelled and looked a lot better than the salmon. Im still going to try the salmon again but so far we have paws up for the chicken flavor and paws down for the salmon flavor.

I think i might have found a good dry food for their rotation. They have been eating the chicken before grain with euthusiasm(sp?) Now im kind of interested in the other flavors in this line. The store i go to which is in Southern California only has the salmon and chicken canned and the chicken dry. Im going to be ordering some more dry foods for them to try that i cant find around here ill see how the chicken before grain holds up to those as well. ( i have two seperate bowls one filled with nutro natural choice and one with the chicken before grain. I judge it on which bowl is empty first and which cats i see eating out of the two foods)

100% Quail. We're trying this tonight. I will report back later.
5.5 ounce cans 23 FEB 11
Interim report: Tastes like baby food, bland. 5 cans split between the cats with a taste by myself. 2 initially didn't want it . Gave them a small can of beef & chicken. By the 3rd can opening they were eating it, too. My vomiter burped. Will report back later how they tolerate this stuff.
No apparent problems with food tolerance.

well i have another cats taste test to report on the chicken before grain dry food. I have been feeding it to the out door cat that comes around every so often and she seems to really like it. She has come back to the back door 2 days in a row twice a day asking for some merrick. When i give her the bowl she has been eating mostly all of it. Usually she will come by every so often but i think the recent visits are because of the merrick.
ps ive just put in an order for the variety pack. Im going to be trying all the flavors very soon. ill report back to you guys with the results.

FYI...PetFoodDirect.com has the complete line of this brand...was reading about the different brands of food here that have had the 2 paws up or down... as I order from this company and have the food shipped to Argentina by a friend and just looking for something different to mix with a little home cooking I am trying...they even have "tester" bags of just over 1 pound..so nice way to check it out w/out much investment...

Tried some 3 oz cans of the quail this AM, with 5 cats. BB 14 March 2011
Two cats rejected. (typical)
One cat ate a few bites. (typical)
One cat ate about half his portion, acted like he could take it or leave it.
Fifth cat ate in record time, polished the bowl clean, and started in on what others had left behind.
The food appears to be a smooth pate', which my cats usually prefer, but has a slightly grainy feel when rubbed between the fingers. Finely ground bone?

Picked up 1 can each (5.5 oz) of the Salmon, Tuna, Chicken, Beef, Turkey to supplement their other food. All 3 of my cats are usually on a rotation of 2x/day feedings of canned Wellness grain free, EVO, Trader Joes, w/Tiki Cat for treats sometimes. Dry feed a mix of EVO and Natural Balance Limited ingredients Duck and Green Pea. Beef and Turkey: 1 y.o. ate it all (typical), 9 m.o. ate the other brand of food in the bowl but left the b.g., 3 y.o. picked at it but didn't finish it. Chicken & Tuna: 1 y.o. ate it all (typical), 9 m.o. scratched around the bowl like he was trying to cover poo and refused it and the 3 y.o. picked at it but didn't finish it. Salmon was the only one that all 3 would eat. Given the cost, and limited availability (it's not stocked by my local store), I will probably not be adding this to their rotation. No adverse affects (throwing up or the other end) from the food. They just didn't like the taste for the most part!

BG Chicken Best Buy: 29 FEB 11 Divided 5 cans between 10 cats. 5 cats devoured 4 cats more interested in liquid than chicken, picked at chicken, ate some of it. 1 cat didn't want chicken from one of the cans, but ate it from the other can It is very bland tasting. Little smell to it. Reminds me of baby food. P.S. Twinks, we were posting at the same time.
