California. On June 6, 2007, the following was sent to: info@artemiscompany.com

Quote
In May, I bought 5 cans of Artemis CHICKEN Formula for Cats. My cats liked it very much. I opened the last
can on Saturday, June 2, and noticed that the contents had an unpleasant moldy odor. I spooned out a small
amount for a closer look, and saw a streak of gray furry mold. I immediately called Artemis' toll-free number,
but there was no answer.

I returned the can of food to the store where I purchased it, and suggested to the manager/owner that she
contact Artemis about the spoiled food.

The bottom of the can had the code number: 21 50 E 08 AX 1
Bar code on the label: 8 13369 00024 2

To date, Artemis has not replied.

I bought a few cans of Artemis this year - had trouble finding cans that didn't look like they were "antiques" - no matter what the ex date said. They looked old and rusty. This happened to me in several stores with Artemis and in one store with other all-natural premium brands too. I assumed that this was due to the "good stuff" sitting on the shelves unsold until the demand increased due to the recalls. Then  the "good" companies finally had to push out some fresh inventory - I assumed. The few cans I picked carefully and fed my boys smelled ok, but I haven't bought it again. I just didn't trust them.

Miu,  Did you try to call Artemis?

Meowli,  I think Artemis cans are made at Evanger's.  Evanger's cans look like that from the spring water.

Artemis is sold in this area, so I know a few people who use it.  They are happy with it and their cats who used to throw-up don't on Artemis.  My cat didn't care for it.

My 2 girls have been on Artemis dry since the recall.  One loves it and one really only likes wet food so I cannot use her as a critic.

There are so few comments on Artemis, I almost fear to use it simply because of that, but it's gotten good reviews on the hub pages.....Am I missing something?

I live in Japan and the cans are no longer sold here due to complaints, apparently, of rust on the outside of the cans.

We did try the Artemis Adult Cat dry last year and all loved it and had no trouble with it.  I was thinking to get it again to rotate with their Solid Gold Katz N-Flocken dry while I try to round up some lesser carb dry, but wanted to know if someone thought I shouldn't.

But I can't even find this product on their homepage.   Huh

I notice that there is also Artemis Maximal which is grain-free?  Why does nobody use this or even mention this?  What's wrong with it?   Wink  Those first two ingredients maybe?

Here are the ingredients to these products.  Could you tell me why I shouldn't get it?

Personal opinion, only - on the Maximal:

No ash percentage mentioned, not good (since my cats vary in age) - so what are the phosphorous levels?

I would never purchase a grain free product with Potato protein (in fact, after the problems with certain toxins in kibble from too much potatoe - Natura - I have been avoiding all potato products unless it is sweet potato).

JMHO.

There is so little information about this product anywhere on the internet, I can't find the phosphorous levels.  Or anything else about it, really.  No reviews, no thumbs up or down...it even took me a while to understand that it was a grain-free product.

And that lack of info/talk about it had stopped me from trying it.  (The other Artemis dry, however, has gotten good if not great reviews on the hub pages.)

Thanks for that information, it's very helpful

I have the stats for this!!! I have been looking at the Maximal Cat. Since I have the stats, maybe someone can tell us if it is good or not? The Phosphorous seems a little high but the ratio is correct to the calcium. And I have seen foods with a phosphorous level of 2% or more. Can high phosphorous cause kidney issues or are high level just bad for sick kitties?

Artemis sent me samples of the Maximal. Before that they have answered all of my emails with my questions so first from that standpoint they are a great company.

Both my cats like this food and I like the fact it is high protein, grain free, and lower carbs but still have low calories. So far all is good and normal potties.

Some may not like the first ingriedients but chicken meal is not a bad thing at all....and one thing I like is there is no canola oil in it. Yes there is potato in it but you either go grain free with potato or rice. What do you do....we give it 2 paws up!

As this is one of the very few grain-free kibble that is available in Japan, I'm getting more intrigued to try it (we eat and really like the Artemis Adult Cat kibble -- but I've been hoping to get them off grain).

Thanks for the report.

August,

Here is the whole breakdown of it. (I attached it so I hope it shows) Artemis sent me this. It has Ash around 7%, I think other grain free are near 9%. Phosphorus is higher but not as high as some other high protein.

My cat Chloe used to not breath or taste her food...she was always hungry. She is now on Wellness wet morning and night then for lunch I give her the Maximal. When I get home she still has the dry in her food  bowl and my other cat Callie still has some food in her bowl (which means Chloe didn't eat it. ha) The old food would be gone as soon as her timer popped up I am sure. I do not think there is food left because she doesn't like it, I think it fills her hole better.

Thanks for the info.

I need to order some more Orijen, so maybe I'll order some Maximal and see what they think of it.  I would suppose it's better than serving a high-carb dry.

If you do not want to buy a big bag to test....send them an email for samples. They sent me 6-8 little bags of it.

info@artemiscompany.com

Just include the product you want to sample and your address.
