Missing my cat brothers and sister killed by PF

« on: February 15, 2011, 09:57:34 PM »

Mewsette has taken to really biting hard in play...not so much with me but her dad looks like Bill Compton (vampire on True Blood for those who do not know) got to his hands....She is playing but man she can bite.....almost all her toys even wand toys..she will jump past and nail the hands....with your hand down she will bunny kick your hand..which I do not mind..and bite it (with me never broke the skin but has come close)....sigh she is playing just so rough.....Oh and she is also VERY possessive over her gray toy mice..not the black or white..she will hover over them and growl....once she swiped at me claws in..I hissed back she quit..but grabbed that mouse and ran...then she puts them in her litter box and plays with them...ewww what is the deal?

Sandy,
She is just being a kitten, but you can do some things to discourage her biting.  I think men do tend to play rough with them and let it go on too long until they pay the price - bites and scratches.  I know that DH did that with our first kitten.  First you have to do what mama kitty might do when the kittens get too rough.  She might box their ears, but you can tap her lightly across the bridge of her nose with your finger as a signal to stop, then stop the play and walk away.  DH may need to shorten his play sessions to avoid over stimulating her.  As for her toys, just let her have them and don't try to take them away.  Don't know what to suggest about the litter box issue!   Cheesy  Take heart - she won't be a kitten forever.  It does get better!   Grin

Thank you Mandycat..I wonder when they are no longer kittens...Huh?  Not that I want her to be an old lady cat....but lol blood was pouring down hubbys hand more than once....Now I will say I am with you on his maybe playing harder than he means to...he is rather strong..

I hate to stop playing chase my hand on the bed and fake wrestling with her cause she loves it and it wears her our fast...I can skip all games ending in attack the hand  Grin   minus the hand chase and bunny kick play bite game...thats fun for Mew and I ...I will TRY to get my hubby to hiss and LIGHTLY tap her face...I just worry she will grow to be a mean biting kitty.....and the growling really blew us away

Yes the litterbox thing is so gross....and ALL new toys that she really likes are grabbed and christened in the litterbox..its gross to see her batting it around in there then put it in her mouth...gak...Though we keep the box clean I just wonder if she has a screw loose

Yet other times she can be so sweet ......Do I sound like a worried cat mom lol

Sandy,
The biting and bunny kicking are how they play with other kittens and they outgrow that phase of kitten play. I don't think it will make her a mean grown up cat, but, meanwhile, be prepared for scratches and bites if she gets too wild with it.  Grin  Good luck!   Smiley

Lol  Smiley   the scratches we are almost use to...though I do clip her nails a couple times a week.....the bunny kicking and PLAY bites are funny and cute....but the too hard stuff well as long as she only does it to my husband  Grin would be OK too hahaha..but not if she ever decides to nail me...I can usually tell her a soft no or soft soft hiss...and she will ease up.....hubby looks like Cat Dracula got him  Cheesy

Thanks again....I just never had a cat get sooo carried away with humans..though when I had my other cats I had....4 and they didn't hand play much with me.....they did torment one another

Her dad is a bad influence anyhow he was letting her ride on his back and I was bending down getting one of her toys..she crawled up the back of my legs to my back..well almost..I hissed really nasty and lightly tossed her off... she hasn't done it again.....

My Bella (9 years old) plays rough, and I"m slowly breaking her of it.  She was obviously taught that by her previous owner, but I've never had a cat play with hands before.  Tell your husband not to jerk his hand away from her, that's probably why the bites are going too deep.

As soon as Bella grabs my hand and pulls it toward her, I stop all motion.  I let her "catch" my hand, and sniff or nip it, then as soon as she relaxes her grip I get up and walk away.  If I try to pet her, she attacks again and I get scratched.

Over the 3 years I've had her, she has gotten more and more gentle, but she still does it.  I don't mind her doing it, as long as she doesn't hurt me.  Wink

Geez sounds like she's 'seasoning' her toys with her scent, albeit a lil gross, with eau de litter parfum. Are the mice filled w/anything like catnip or something inside that she's trying to get rid of the smell of maybe? How about more gray mice so she won't be so possessive over just one - kinda like giving a kid lots of candy and they do not know which one to pick first! (",)

Lol ouch Merrihart I can't imagine a adult cat nailing me but then maybe its all the same pain wise lol....I did read your post a while back and have been trying to stay still hand so far pretty good...its so hard sometimes to just be still cause we are both high energy....but yes it helps thanks

Lol JJ no she has more than one grey mouse....and yes ewww on the litter..I caught her now 3 times with new toys ..right away putting them in her litter box..prized toys too...anything of high value makes it in there...she plays then its all OK and no no cat nip ..Now the mice she plays with they most of them are fake fur and some I think are real rabbit fur...those are the ones she most possessive of...and it can be vexing....no nip in them either..she likes catnip ..I call DOPE TIME and she comes for it..but no these toys...and just teeny mice......

Hugs to all

Oh so she's a smart toy selector. Only 'high value' make it into the eau de litter for added scenting.
