Forum Ground Rules

1.  Please be polite and respectful.

2. No politics allowed unless directly related to pets.  Such posts will be deleted.

3. Posts deemed spam, those containing vulgarity, racist, or other inappropriate comments, or bullying or harassment, will be edited or deleted.

4. No attacks on members of the forum, either as individuals or as groups.  In disagreeing, remember to disagree on the issue, not with the person.

5.  Members who violate ground rules may receive a warning from the moderators via personal message.

6.  Members who have received multiple warnings and refuse to change their behavior will be referred to forum administrators for possible banning from the forum, along with documentation of why this is being considered.

7.  Sending harassing Personal Messages to fellow members will not be tolerated.  If a member receives a PM which they deem to be harassment, that member is encouraged to report the PM to the administrator.  Click on the "report to administrator" link right in the actual PM.  Do not report the offending message to the moderators via Personal Message.  Do not delete the offensive PM until the matter is resolved by moderators/administrators.

8.  If you have a serious problem/complaint with a post and wish to report it, click on the “Report to moderator” line at the bottom of the offending post.  Only problems/complaints that have been filed through this mechanism will be considered for action by the moderators.  Moderators will not respond to individual problems/complaints unless they have been filed via "Report to moderator".  Do not report complaints about a post via PM or on the thread itself.

9.  If you have blocked any of the moderators from sending you PMs, we will not be able to respond to problems you may have.  If you have blocked PMs from any moderator and require warning (normally done in private via PM), we will have no choice but to post that warning publicly on the thread.  It is in your best interests not to block PMs from the moderators.

10.  Moderators are like umpires.  You may not always agree with their calls on a given point, but by participating in this forum, you agree to abide by their decisions.

11.  As of the posting of these rules, moderators will not respond to complaints about any posts made before September 8, 2008

Please note that these ground rules have been clarified.  See points 7, 8, 9, and 11.

Please do not send personal messages containing moderation questions or moderation topics to individual moderators.  Such questions need to be addressed to all moderators.

Again, if you have a serious problem with a post, please use the “report to moderator” button on the post, rather than sending PMs.  See rule #8 above.

Please do not send messages (PMs) to any of the moderators with questions regarding other members or former members.  This is confidential information.  Moderators will not privately discuss other members with you and will refer you to this post.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Your Moderators.

A few words of reminder are in order.

While we realize that people are trying to help others, some posts made on this forum recently come close to practicing veterinary medicine without credentials.

When trying to assist someone who is seeking help with their sick pet, it is perfectly appropriate to say something like, “My pet was doing A and B.  I took her to the vet, and she was diagnosed with Condition C.  The vet prescribed D and E.”  Or, “I have had good success using F to help my pet with constipation problems.”  Or, “I have been able to get my pet to take the medication the vet ordered by using Method G.”

What is not appropriate for members of this forum is to diagnose a pet’s problem or recommend medications to another member.  These are matters for veterinary professionals only.

Furthermore, a pet parent in a difficult situation may be understandably confused when a great deal of information is thrown at them in a stressful situation.  This can have the effect of increasing the person’s stress level, which I am sure no one wants to do.

When dealing with an ill pet, always consult your own veterinarian.  Posts on this forum should never be substituted for qualified veterinary advice.
