http://www.militarytimes.com/news/2008/03/marine_puppy_video_030308/In this article they are still hoping the yelping was edited in and the puppy was already deceased. (Then it would have been a sick stunt...) I'm not hopeful, really. From another poster on the forum. "But back to my original point. Animal brutality is a common thing among marines in Iraq. if you're a commander, shouldn't you feel the need to ask why 25-30 percent of your marines feel the need to barbarically kill a rodent or dog?"If that is true, they need to go much further than this one case.

phooey. They're just livid because this incident is making the news. Otherwise, they probably would have dishonorably discharged the individual and turned him loose on the unsuspecting public as has been done in the past with more egregious crimes.

Agree with all your posts. Makes me so livid because I know when I scruff cats/kittens especially, during rescues, they don't move at all!!!

Klondike 25-30% is an unfortunate percentage, and one can hope that using this guy as a scapegoat won't absolve the brass of the other incidents that aren't being managed.
Somewhere else on (I think) that same military chat, someone was going on about how, after a day of having to look over your shoulder and seeing the atrocities, when you see a big-eyed puppy, how can you not want to kill it?
WTF?

Klondike I have the video, anyone that wants it should send me a PM. The dog is ALIVE, the yelps decrease as the puppy is thrown, this was a living animal, there is no doubt in my mind about that. db Just reviewed the video again at 1/8 speed, the dog is definitely alive, it does move this is sickening, if he treats animals like this what other disgusting s[edited]t is he doing?

Here is the Marine's press release: http://www.marines.mil/marinelink/mcn2000.nsf/releaseview/7F00CEF1D09E9EBA852574020061B983?opendocument"MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Oahu -- The video of a Marine mistreating a puppy gained widespread attention on the internet yesterday. The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards the Marine Corps expects of every Marine.
The video came to the Marine Corps' attention early Monday morning and has prompted an investigation. The Marine Corps does not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action."
I don't see animal cruelty directly addressed in the Uniform Code of Military Justice but this might cover it: http://www.military-network.com/main_ucmj/SUBCHAPTERX.html#933.133933. ART. 133. CONDUCT UNBECOMING AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN Any commissioned officer, cadet, or midshipman who is convicted of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

kaffe I hope he is court-martialled, along with his partners-in-crime, and that this bites him for a very long time.
Grab him by the scruff of the neck and toss him off the Grand Canyon I say! The event should be televised, recorded and archived in YouTube. ohhhh... I am mean today

The event should be televised, recorded and archived in YouTube. This is the troubling part for me, who in their RIGHT MIND, would record this. There is something definitely wrong with this person. and Yes this falls under the conduct unbecoming an officer etc clause.

Guess what! Motari is being "separated"; ie. expelled from the Marines. I'm glad this story didn't just get buried. Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is "being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified "non-judicial punishment." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25108189/

Thanks for letting us know! They really needed to do this for the deterrent effect. (And for the integrity of the organization as a whole.)

Yes - it was also in my loical news... I'd like to know what "discipline" these two recieved (the one who tossed and the one who video'd) before being processed for expulsion from the marines... just one of them?
