I was just reading yesterday's paper and there was a story about a strangled kitten.
In Buffalo, NY, someone reported a dead kitten 9:30 AM Sunday.  The poor little thing had a shoelace tied around its neck, and the still attached shoe was thrown over a suspension line for a power pole.  Someone from the power company removed it at 9 PM Sunday!!!

I know I am being irrational by hating an entire town, but that's where I am right now. How utterly callous can you get?  Leaving it up for the enjoyment of the depraved perverts, and the sickness and disgust of the normal people.  I don't care what species it was. A living being was hideously killed!

And it wasn't even an electrified line.  The poor little thing could have been taken down right away and an effort made to find the sick-o!

The paper I was reading was the Poughkeepsie Journal.  I haven't looked if it's in their on-line version or if it appeared in a Buffalo paper.  I am too nauseated to look.  Cry

Oh Arlo, that is heartbreaking!  What is it with people these days?  Have they become so de-sensitized to everything that allowing that poor kitten to stay there so long and not want to find out what happened and who did it immediately is so unthinkable?  I will go light a candle for the poor thing.  I am angry and feel like Im going to vomit over this.  I just dont want to even think what that poor little thing went thru before it died.  People are sick.   Cry   Whoever did this to that poor kitten are scum and I can only hope what goes around, comes around for them.

In situations like this, I prefer to NOT use the word people when referring to the sick-o's who do things like this.  I prefer the term BACTERIA to describe these things that walk the Earth.

The shoe obviously belongs to someone...............

This is just another stab in the heart for all of us Cry Cry Cry

MCP, you raise an excellent point! I don't like the term predator.  A predator is a lion eating a gazelle.  That's a natural thing.  Someone can be completely psychotic without being evil, so psychotic isn't the right word either.  Unnatural, perverted, depraved, evil? And then the utter coldness and heartlessness of the city and their power company, for leaving the poor little thing on display.

This story is going to get me.  Sometimes I have to deal with animal abuse, and I end up losing sleep.  Cry

Arlo.......Please don't let this story tear you down.  There are bacteria out there that come in all shapes and sizes.

In all my years of rescue work, I have come across many horrid scenarios.  This is what keeps me going.......The desire to help as many as possible so that these stories become extinct.

This is why you volunteer at the shelter Arlo.

We can be mad at the town and mad at the power company.............it seems to me that too many that walk this Earth are complacent or unbothered by what the innocent are often subject to. Angry Angry

It appears as if there will be an investigation

OMG, I am sick to My stomach right now.
Peg is right- They are Bacteria, and should be delt with the same way.
Arlo, Peg, Myself, and all those in rescue. This is why i sometimes want to give up, because it gets to Me so bad I just can't understand or live with it. Then another one of Gods creatures needs Me, and there i am again. I think some of us might be here for that purpose.
I don't know, but if they had a trial, i'd like to be on a jury.
When when people realize animals are not a peice of furniture but to love and cherish?

This seems to be a sickening case of sadistic animal abuse and on top of that, I am concerned that the power company did not remove the victim faster.  If this upsets adults to read about it, what about the possibility that kids saw this?  What message about life does that send them?

I do think that only the power company should ever attempt removal from a line,  but there should be a rapid response.  They mention the name of the company in the article Peg found.

In New York State, what happened is felony animal cruelty.  They sure didn't take it seriously.  IMHO the electric company and police should have taken care of it immediately.  It horrifies me to think of children exposed to that.

I am thinking about writing to the mayor of Buffalo to tell him what I think of his police and power company.

Public support of an animal cruelty investigation always helps, even if the state has a felony law.  They have one here, too.  (Though there are exemptions for research labs apparently.)

I guess it is possible that the local authorities didn't pressure the power company hard enough.  It sure wouldn't hurt to ask questions, Arlo.  A 12 hour delay is shocking.  If you Google the power company name, you can find a contact for them, too.
